FAQ

1. What is it exactly that you do?

As a professional organizer, I help people create systems that keep things running smoothly at home. I will work with you side-by-side throughout the entire process of de-cluttering your home. Our sessions will involve an assessment to determine how your space is not meeting your needs, sharing ideas to decide the best option for the space, hands-on support during the weed out process, and creative solutions to find the perfect fit for your remaining items.

2. Will I have to throw away all of my stuff?

While purging is a part of the organizing process, a common misconception is that you will need to get rid of everything you own in order to be organized. I will never force you to donate, throw away, or sell anything! I will ask you questions, make recommendations, and teach you to make decisions related to your goals and priorities.

3. How can working with a professional organizer improve my life?

I will provide support, structure, and creative solutions to help reduce your stress and allow you to regain control over your surroundings. By eliminating clutter, you will live more efficiently, get more accomplished, and be able to spend more time focusing your energy on the things you love to do! I will design systems to meet your specific needs and lifestyle and will teach you how to maintain the order we create during our project.

4. How much is this going to cost?

Every client has different needs and expectations for their project, therefore, I am unable to give cost estimates without first meeting to discuss your specific needs. Some people are quick to eliminate clutter, while others might take a slower approach. I will work as efficiently as possible to help you reach your goals within your established timeframes. Once we complete your in-home assessment we will determine the pace of organizing. I will create a plan that allows the process to move forward at a comfortable pace for you while meeting all established deadlines. More information related to pricing can be seen here.

5. Will I need to buy expensive shelving systems in order for my project to be successful?

My approach will be to re-use and re-purpose as much of your existing items as possible to reach your organizing goals. I will never push expensive purchases on you or require you to buy anything! I will create solutions to meet your needs, keeping in mind your budget and lifestyle. During your in-home assessment, I will walk through your home, as much as you are comfortable with, and look for items that can be used during our project to meet your needs. Any additional purchase recommendations will be included in your plan and will be discussed at length prior to moving forward.

6. How long will it take to get my home organized?

Just as it takes time for clutter to accumulate and disorganization to take over, the organizing process may require some time. Once we complete the in-home assessment, we will identify your needs, goals, and the pace of organizing. I will work as efficiently as possible while moving the process forward at a pace that is comfortable to you.

7. I am embarrassed by how unorganized my home is, should I tidy up before our session?

It is important that I see your home exactly as it is on a daily basis so I have a clear understanding of your space and how it functions. The organizing process is very personal and it can be hard to welcome an outsider to your home when you feel embarrassed by the state of your space. Please be assured that I approach every project with an open mind and non-judgmental perspective. I will never discuss your space and ensure complete confidentiality from the moment I step inside your home.

8. Are you licensed, bonded and insured?

Yes, I am licensed, bonded and insured.

9. Do I have to be home when you are organizing my space?

In order for your organizing project to be successful, we must create a system that makes sense to you, meets your needs and goals, and fits within your lifestyle. Organizing is a process that involves many decisions, and I cannot make those decisions myself. By being involved in the process, you will become more aware of how you use your space. This will allow you to maintain the systems that are implemented and will result in less clutter moving forward. Once we have completed the weed out process, there will be times when I can work independently and you will not need to be present.

10. What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept cash, checks, and all major credit cards (Mastercard, Visa, American Express, and Discover).
