Week 5

Cookware & Bakeware

This is your final kitchen challenge before moving on to other areas of your home, let’s finish strong!

Spend 15 minutes every day this week emptying your cabinets of all pots and pans, cutting boards, casseroles, mixing bowls, baking pans, cookie sheets, and anything else that is stuffed in those deep corners! Sort by type and make piles of like items. Once sorted, you may be surprised to find duplicates you didn’t know you had! Is there anything you don’t need? Put all items you feel comfortable discarding in a box and donate to a local charity.

Now, take a step back and visualize how your family uses your kitchen. Where do you normally prep your meals? All cutting boards, mixing bowls, and similar prep items should be stored together in a spot as close to this area as possible. All pots and pans should be kept close to the stove and bakeware should be near the oven. By setting up these “zones”, you will save valuable time when preparing and cooking your meals.

If you have limited space, vertical organizing racks are very inexpensive and help contain pot lids, cutting boards, and cookie sheets! If stacking items in a cabinet, make sure your most used items are kept on top for easy retrieval. Finally, don’t forget the backs of cabinet doors. Hooks and racks can be mounted to the door to offer additional storage space!
